The Indian subcontinent, a southern peninsular region of Asia, has perhaps an enormous array of environmental situations because of her geographical location, varied physical features, and climatic conditions. The subcontinent's diverse habitats have been broadly categorized as Mountain ranges of Himalaya and trans Himalaya, Forest, Wetland, riverine plains, Scrubland, Desert, Grassland, Agricultural land, Arid, and semi-arid land, Coasts, islands, and Marine.
The Indian subcontinent is rich in bird diversity and inhabits more than 1330 species of birds in various habitats, which is about 13% of the world's birds, including 69 species of diurnal and nearly 36 nocturnal species of raptors. India is one of the globally significant stopovers, wintering ground, and breeding ground for them. The migratory and resident birds of prey like Falcons, Kites, Eagles, Vultures, Owls, Buzzards, Hawks, and Harriers spend a significant amount of their lives in the open habitats like the Grasslands, wetlands, farmlands, arid and semi-arid lands of western India.
