This year, Hawk Mountain is again joining the movement for people to reconnect outdoors over the holidays. Instead of venturing for deals, #OptOutside and embrace the PA autumn outdoors with your loved ones. Connect with nature and enjoy fresh, open air!
We are offering a guided hike of our River of Rocks trail, including natural history interpretation by our educators along the way. Participants should anticipate over 4 miles of rugged natural trails, lots of rocks underfoot and a steep descent, and should come prepared with a daypack with water and lunch, sturdy shoes, and a sense of adventure.
Snacks will be provided. The River of Rocks Trail is classified as difficult due to its sections of rocky terrain, but hikers of all ages can enjoy this hike.
If you can't make it for the guided hike, the trails will be open all day for any and all visitors who #OptOutside! And be sure to share with the hashtag on social media and tag us in your posts.
In our increasingly urbanized society, we all need to find time to breathe fresh air and reflect; spending time outdoors lifts us up. Several years ago, REI started this #OptOutside movement by closing their doors and inviting their employees to head outdoors and connect with nature instead of fighting Black Friday crowds. Now, many non-profits and companies do the same and encourage EVERYONE to opt outside!
