Phenology is the science that measures the timing of life cycle events in nature and detects how the environment influences the timing of those events. As such, it is a powerful indicator of environmental change. It is also a great way for anyone to get involved in science by monitoring what is happening in their backyard! In this presentation, we will explore the history of phenology, why scientists find the long-term phenology trends valuable, and what types of things have been monitored here in Pennsylvania.
