ABOUT ABOUT

With the eastern cougar recently declared extinct, it is important to understand these fascinating animals as individuals from western populations have been reported in the eastern cougar's former range.

Spend an evening learning about the elusive mountain lion. Joshua Lisbon studies cougars for MPG Conservation Ranch in the Sapphire Mountains just south of Missoula, Montana. He leads a noninvasive study that is shedding light on unique behaviors and social interactions of mountain lions, and calling into question some long-held assumptions about these amazing animals. Joshua's research is being featured in a new wildlife documentary.

Joshua has designed and implemented wilderness and experiential-based education programs for various agencies since 2001. He has worked in Missoula since 2005 predominately with disadvantaged populations providing challenging and empowering programming for youth and adults alike. At MPG, Joshua works to coordinate with local agencies and school districts as well as the university to connect students and members of the community to MPG’s work. He has also developed curriculum based on MPG's many research projects and delivers that to classrooms across the country. For the past several years Joshua had lead the winter mountain lion study at MPG.
